The 2022 investment target is considered ambitious

In the 2020-2024 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), the initial target for actual investment realization is Rp. 968.4 trillion.
However, President Joko Widodo asked the Investment Ministry to increase the target to Rp 1,200 trillion, in order to support economic growth back above 5 percent in 2022. Executive Director of the Center of Reform on Economics Mohammad Faisal, Sunday (16/1/2021) assessed the investment target worth Rp. 1,200 trillion it will be difficult to achieve. According to him, the target is too high and ambitious, especially considering the ongoing pandemic situation. "Until the third quarter of last year alone, the achievement was still 73 percent, which may not be achieved according to the target of Rp 900 trillion. Moreover, if it is raised to Rp 1,200 trillion this year, it will most likely not be achieved,” said Faisal. The Executive Director of the Institute for Development of Economics and Finance, Tauhid Ahmad, assessed that the increase in the investment realization target of 33 percent from 2021 to 2022 exceeded the target normally set by the government before the pandemic. The assumption that the target is too high also comes from the entrepreneur side. Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Shinta W Kamdani assessed that, compared to previous years, the increase in the investment target of Rp. 1,200 trillion from Rp. 900 trillion was indeed very ambitious. “Historically, an increase in investment realization of this magnitude in one year has never happened before. Usually, the increase in investment realization is only about 5-10 percent on an annual basis,”
