Promote Transparency of Cooking Oil Subsidy Fund

Director of the Center of Economic and Law Studies (Celios) Bhima Yudhistira Adhinegara said that although it was enjoyed by the public, subsidies for the price of simple and premium packaged cooking oil were actually given by the government to the private sector.
In this context, the subsidy to cover the difference between the economic price and the highest retail price (HET) of cooking oil set by the government at Rp. 14,000 per liter is intended for cooking oil producers. The government also not only subsidizes the price of simple packaged cooking oil, but also premiums. In terms of production costs alone, the two types of cooking oil are already different, but the economic price is set the same. "Therefore, the use of BPDPKS funds must be transparent. An audit or calculation of cooking oil production costs needs to be carried out and opened. Likewise with the determination of economic prices and the amount of subsidies," said Bhima in Jakarta, Wednesday (19/1/2022). Bhima also questioned the effectiveness of providing subsidized cooking oil in controlling domestic cooking oil prices. As long as global CPO prices remain high, domestic cooking oil prices are also expected to remain high. In a public hearing of Commission VI of the House of Representatives with business actors in the palm oil and cooking oil sector, Wednesday afternoon, Chairman of the Indonesian Food Oil Industry Association (AIMMI) Adi Wisoko Kasman said that the one-price cooking oil policy does not actually benefit cooking oil producers even though the government subsidize the price difference. The recalculation of the economic price of cooking oil needs to be done jointly between the government and entrepreneurs.
