Beware of High Inflation This Year
The International Monetary Fund or IMF estimates that global inflation this year will be high. Every country needs to be aware of and anticipate the increase in inflation so as not to burden the community, especially the poor.
In a review of the world economy entitled "Surging Cases, Disruption to Recovery and High Inflation" the IMF estimates that inflation in developed countries in 2022 will be 3.9 percent and developing countries at 5.9 percent. Inflation was caused by supply chain disruptions, tightening monetary policy, spikes in energy and food prices, and increased demand. First Deputy Managing Director of IMF Gita Gopinath said inflation would increase, mainly due to pressures on energy and food prices that would last for a long time. The stock market indicates that by 2022, the price of crude oil will increase by 12 percent, natural gas by 58 percent, and food by 4.5 percent. Supply chain disruptions due to the spread of the Omicron variant of the corona virus in a number of countries are also estimated to still occur. This has resulted in an increase in logistics costs and imported products. Economist of the Institute for Economic and Community Research, Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Indonesia, Teuku Riefky, said that inflation has increased as people's activities have recovered in recent months. The situation is believed to increase in 2022. The increase in Value Added Tax and excise on tobacco products as well as increases in cooking oil and LPG prices are expected to have an impact on inflation. On the other hand, producers and traders have long faced rising costs due to supply disruptions.
