Mineral and Coal Miners Determined Towards Clean Energy
Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (SDM) Ridwan Djamaluddin said Indonesia has a strong commitment to clean energy development by signing the Paris Agreement and ratifying it.
Therefore, the mineral and coal mining industry players (minerba) are also heading in the same direction, namely trying to become a clean and environmentally friendly energy industry. These minerals, added Ridwan, will later be used in many components and industries, including infrastructure, public transportation, the battery industry, as well as building other new and renewable energy infrastructure. Therefore, massive exploration is needed in the midst of Indonesia's geographical challenges. "We will encourage more massive exploration to get better sources of raw materials, which theoretically exist in Indonesia. However, our challenge, as when we explore other mineral sources, is with the geological configuration in Indonesia, our exploration cannot fully imitate what is done by other countries, so that we have not carried out any deepening according to the configuration of Indonesia," he explained. Currently, Indonesia has critical mineral types and Rare Earth Metals that have the potential to be developed. There have been many discussions and discourses conducted to encourage the utilization of these critical minerals.
