Sri Mulyani: Draft KUP Bill Leaked and Spread with Incomplete Aspects

Minister of Finance (Menkeu) Sri Mulyani Indrawati stated that the draft Law on General Provisions and Tax Procedures (KUP) had just been sent to the leadership of the DPR RI and had not been discussed.
Thus, his party deeply regrets the emergence of noise regarding the issue of the imposition of value added tax (VAT) for basic needs or basic necessities. Moreover, continued the Minister of Finance, the draft KUP Bill was leaked and spread to the public with aspects that were cut off and incomplete, causing conditions to become awkward. “The situation became a bit awkward because it turned out that later the documents were out because they had already been sent to the DPR as well. What came out in pieces," said Sri Mulyani in a working meeting with Commission XI of the Indonesian House of Representatives. The Minister of Finance's statement answered requests for confirmation and objections from a number of members of the House of Representatives Commission XI regarding the circulation of news regarding the plan to impose VAT on basic necessities. Among the requests for confirmation and objections came from Andreas Eddy Susetyo from the PDIP faction, Puteri Anetta Komarudin from the Golkar Party faction, and Kamrussamad from the Gerindra Party faction. He emphasized that the government is currently still focused on restoring the economy so that he deeply regrets that there is a commotion in the community regarding the issue of basic necessities that will be subject to VAT. “Blowed up as if not paying attention to the current situation. We really use the APBN instrument because our goal is economic recovery from the demand side and supply side," said Sri Mulyani. However, he said, the government was still unable to explain in detail about this issue because in terms of political ethics there had been no discussion with the DPR RI.
